In 2017 Anna Calvi collaborated with the American director Robert Wilson, composing 8 songs for his play THE SANDMAN, which was staged since 3rd until 9th May at Recklinghausen (Germany) during the Ruhrfestspiele Festival, and later moved to the Schauspielhaus in Düsseldorf. There, on the day of the premiere (20th May), Anna performed on the stage singing the song True Lies.
The project was officially reported for the first time on 21st February 2017, on Anna’s official pages, when she announced her new discographical release: “My new EP Live For Burberry, recorded live with my band and choir and strings from The Heritage Orchestra is out now on Apple Music and Spotify. Whip The Night is taken from a new theatre play that I have written the music for: The Sandman directed by the legendary Robert Wilson. The play begins in May in Dusseldorf. I chose iT by Christine and the Queens because I totally relate to its message. I hope you enjoy and share ~A”
Still today Whip The Night is the only song released officially (and only digitally) to testify Anna’s work for The Sandman.
